Mentoring the Muses

Through Mentoring the Muses, a special partnership between Hunter’s Muse Scholar Program and the Arnhold Graduate Dance Education Program (AGDEP), select graduate students have the opportunity to teach dance to first year Muse Scholars in their Exploration in the Arts course.

Muse Scholar Director Dara Meyers-Kingsley and AGDEP Director Ana Fragoso design specific classes by consulting with AGDEP graduate students, who bring their own training and experience to the sessions they lead.  AGDEP graduate students help the Muse Scholars learn how to appreciate dance as an art form by taking them to the dance floor and teaching new techniques during special workshops.  The studio dance classes are followed by going out to see a professional dance performance –usually at either Fall for Dance at NY City Center or at the Joyce Theater – and then discussing the dance performance in the following class period.
